Government

From its roots in 16th century Scottish Presbyterianism, the Princeton Presbyterian Church was established as a congregation of various presbyteries created by several boundary changes.  Currently, we belong to the Presbytery of West Virginia of the PC (USA) and the Synod of the Trinity.

We are a connectional church with a representative form of government, electing a Session made up of men and women who are elders ("presbyters" as the Greek New Testament describes the leaders after whom our denominational form of government is named.)  As Presbyterians, we are one of more than 11,000 congregations (2.5 million members in the U.S.A.).

As a connectional church, our Session elects elder representatives who vote with an equal number of pastors as both delegates and decision makers sharing support and accountability in  Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly meetings.  In overseas mission work, we have over 900 missionaries serving in 82 different countries.  Locally, our Session organizes its work through its eight committees, which are chaired by active elders and report back to Session monthly for its decisions of policy and program.
